Discover the simple world of handicrafts: frogs made from polystyrene balls
Step 1: Prime the polystyrene balls
Prepare the polystyrene balls
Start by priming the 20 cm and 30 cm polystyrene balls with a paint sponge and light green craft paint. Dip the paint sponge into the paint and apply it generously to the balls. The advantage of the paint sponge is that it creates an even surface without brush marks.
Step 2: Add details
Design the belly and dots
Once the primer has dried, mix some white and green craft paint. Use this to colour in the frogs' bellies. For additional accents, you can use a bamboo skewer to print white dots on the surface.
Step 3: Assemble the polystyrene halves
Glue the halves together
Once the painted halves are completely dry, you can glue them together using VBS handicraft glue. If your frogs are to be placed outdoors, fill the polystyrene halves with something heavy before gluing them together so that they are stable.
Step 4: Make the frogs stable
Create and attach the feet
Print out the templates for the feet, cut them out and transfer them to foam rubber using a pencil or sublimatising pen to cut them out again. Cut a small piece off the underside of the ball with a cutter knife so that the frog has a firm footing. Finally, attach the foam rubber feet to the base using hot glue.
Step 5: Design the eyes
Painting and attaching the eye balls
Paint two 10 cm and two 7 cm polystyrene balls with green craft paint, leaving one part white. This is where you will later place the wobbly eyes with handicraft glue.
Step 6: Making hats
Make and decorate the hats
For the hats, you need one half of a 15 cm ball, which you paint with craft paint. Do the same with a 7 cm ball cut in half for the smaller frog. Print out the templates for the hat visors, transfer them to foam rubber and cut them out. Glue the hats to the frogs' heads using hot glue.
Step 7: Expressive faces
Design the faces
Use a marker to colour in the mouth and nose. Divide a bamboo skewer into four sections and plugs one piece into each side of the eyes. Fix them with some hot glue and place the eyes slightly offset next to the hats on the bodies.
